Harbour Lights (Single)
Released
October 2020
Single
I wrote Harbour Lights in February 2019 for an RPM Challenge album. It was inspired by the view out of my bedroom window on Prospect street (on a clear night), when you can see all the little boats hanging out on the far side of the St. John’s harbour. The title doubles a nod to the first verse of Ron Hynes’ St. John’s Waltz:
“Oh the harbour lights are gleaming
And the evening's still and dark
And the seagulls are all dreaming
Seagull dreams on Amherst Rock”
I originally began composing it on the cello, but I’m not a good enough cellist to do it justice! Since then, I've adapted it for solo violin or viola, and as a trio for 2 violins and cello.
